Merchandise Breakdown

The backstory of Petroglyph Park is published in a novel which is available for sale, but is not one of the four items included in our merchandise breakdown.  (It is the story outlined in our land narrative.) Guests will be able to purchase the Explorer’s Journal, which is a key plot element from the novel. This item functions much like the wands in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Guests can move through the park without the journal, but more features are unlocked with the purchase of it. They will be able to order the item from our website or purchase it in kiosks throughout the park. Guests will notice people walking around the park with their journal in hand at the scanners and want to purchase one for themselves, so they can also participate in the game.

There are hidden passages in the book that are visible only when viewing them from a particular location inside the park.  Those passages direct the guests to look at, or go to other locations to collect clues which lead them to the next clue. Every time the guests get a clue, they hold their journal under a scanner that documents their accomplishment.  Guests that follow every clue in succession and scan their journal at each location in order, eventually unlock a special themed area where no one is allowed to take photos or videos. Keeping this location somewhat mysterious preserves its special quality.  This area is the only place where guests can meet the original explorers (portrayed by actors.) They will talk for about five minutes about what their adventure was like and what it meant to them. The audience can then come up and shake their hands, ask questions, and get their journal autographed by the explorers.  This rare opportunity to meet the explorers is one fans will relish because there is already an existing fandom surrounding the book.

Guests will also be able to purchase soft toy megafauna birds and reptiles, which come inside eggs.   Owners must care for their egg until it hatches. Inside is a small animatronic baby megafauna creature which is an interactive to a variety of voice and touch commands.  These toys will also react in the presence of other like creatures. For example, if you have a baby Argentavis and so does your friend, the toys will call out to each other.  If guests take their baby Argentavis to the park and walk past a full size Argentavis on display, the toy will also call out to the Argentavis. This feature encourages people to carry their baby megafauna around in the park, which makes them more visible.  The baby megafauna advertise themselves in this way. These toys can be purchased inside the park, online, and in toy stores.

The former two items are highly interactive, but the next two items are simpler.  Guests can purchase explorers’ vests and hats. The vests have many pockets, each containing an item necessary for explorers like a compass, a (plastic) pocket knife, a (plastic) fire starter, etc.  The hat has a brim to keep the sun off and a working light to guide them in the night or through dark caves. Explorer’s vests and hats will be emblazoned with the Petroglyph Park logo and they can be purchased inside the park and online.  The logos will make them self-advertising. People see guests wearing the vest and hat and want a set for themselves.

The last items are a variety of funny hats which will serve as the equivalent of the Mickey Mouse ears.  These hats are going to be plush megafauna heads that look like their mouths are chomping down on the wearer’s head.  Other hats will have birds perched atop the wearer’s head with outstretched wings. Some will have snakes which appear to be constricting the heads of the wearer.  There are a variety of options, which can be continually updated. These hats can only be purchased in the park which creates a sense of scarcity and promotes collectability.  The eye-catching, flamboyant nature of the hats will advertise themselves.
